Smart Working During the Coronavirus

Our Tips for Working from Home at Your Best

Smart working during the coronavirusSmart working: one of the words we have heard most during these weeks of health emergency linked to Coronavirus. In Italian, “smart working” means “agile working”. Many companies had already implemented it before the emergency broke out, while others were suddenly forced to enter the world of working from home.

During this period, however, we are all experiencing working from home in a slightly different way than usual: the problem, except for those who live alone, is that this time there are also parents, children who are not going to school, babies, dogs, cats…

So we decided to give you some useful smart working tips for the whole family:

Smart working tips

Time management

We would like to follow all those free training courses, reflect, read that good book we never have time to read… but after the usual 8 hours of work there are homework assignments to check, the dog to walk, cleaning to do, dinner to prepare… then we realise we do not actually have that much more free time than before. We recommend planning the whole day in detail, scheduling both work and non-work activities. If we define the timing of the day better, we give ourselves a rhythm, improve coexistence and become more productive too, perhaps.

Space management

Another essential aspect of working from home in the best possible way is finding the right space to do it. You need a quiet, tidy, silent space and, above all, one where the Wi-Fi works! Some of us have already tested every room in the house and are still not satisfied. The living room or kitchen can be a valid alternative if you do not have children who might burst in looking for bread and Nutella just as you are on a video call with your managers.

Using the right tools

Here, in our opinion, are the most useful tools for smart working:

Slack

To work effectively from home and maintain good coordination with colleagues, good communication is necessary. In this sense, Slack is ideal. It is a very well-known software in the field of business collaboration. It allows you to create virtual rooms where you can communicate, exchange files, make group calls and manage conversations with multiple users.

Google Hangouts or Chat for coffee

With a Google account, you can access this application, which allows you to connect via video call with 10 people at the same time. At 11:00 sharp, like Swiss watches, we meet here for our unmissable coffee break. Somehow, we have to overcome the feeling of isolation.

Google Drive

Google Drive allows you to work directly in the cloud on text files, spreadsheets, presentations and much more. You can also upload any document online, making it accessible even outside the office.

Team Viewer

This is a very famous program for remote control. It must be installed on the PC being used and on the one you want to control remotely, and with an Internet connection you can take control of another workstation.

Skype

Skype is the most common and widespread software for talking all over the world. Millions of people and companies use it to make free video calls and calls with one person, group calls, send instant messages and share files with other Skype users.

Microsoft Teams

Finally, we suggest Microsoft Teams, a unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video conferencing, content sharing and application integration.

Last but not least, surely no one will forbid you from staying in slippers all day, but at least don’t forget that even if you are at home, it is better to put on a nice sweater and take off your pyjamas, at least during the week.

For now, that’s all from the Weblink team in smart working.
